Xiaomi Mi Max Review
Almost two years back a new mobile company had trashed the Indian mobile market with its devices that is none other than Xiaomi. Xiaomi which started as a software company in China had grown into one of the most popular mobile company in Asia and now had a 5% share in world mobile sales. It is also spreading its wings across the world to trash more markets. Since its start in 2014 in India it had released several Mobile phones and accessories, Mi sells its devices only through online websites like Flipkart which is its first partner in India and later on Amazon and SnapDeal.
Xiaomi Mi Max Review:
This time, Xiaomi is experimenting with a new disastrous territory in smartphones with its Mi Max 6.44 inches’ phablet. There are very few successful devices which we could count on our fingertips, the only successful device that comes to me is Samsung Note series, and it comes with a steep price tag.
Many companies had tried to lure customers to this segment, and we are hoping that Xiaomi may succeed. It had very exclusive features attached to it, long battery life, stylish and sleek design, high-quality camera, pretty good performance and affordable price. Even though we may feel like it would be difficult to use, we can easily get used to it.
Look and Feel:
When we first see the Mi Max the first thing that gets to our mind is “it is gigantic,” it would be wrong too if we do not feel that. With a 6.44 inch screen it the biggest device of Xiaomi, of course excluding the TV’s and Tablets. The size of the mobile may be difficult to get used to, but you will get along with it in few days.
Mi Max had a stylish design with a thickness of 7.5 mm and 2.5D display that would make the mobile easy to carry due to its curvature on the edge of the screen, curved and smooth edges gives more comfort to use and gold and white colors on the looks awesome on the device. Volume and power button are on the right side of the device while sim and memory slots come on the left side of the smartphone. Mi Max comes with a fingerprint scanner on the backside of the mobile which enables more security and easy unlocking.
The display is the important spec in the Mi Max, and we have talked a lot about its Size, now I will be talking about the technical features. Mi Max comes with a Full HD 1080p resolution which is less to its size, had a pixel density of 342ppi which a right amount and comes with Gorilla Glass 3 for scratch free screen. The large screen is very useful to watch videos, using outdoor under sunlight is not at par but okay to use and had good viewing angles. Reading at night is also good as it filters Blue light in reading mode.
The rear camera of the device is a 16 MP with Dual Tone Flash, 5-element lens, and PDAF (Phase Detection Auto Focus) technology, which means the camera can track moving objects fast and auto focus by delivering a blurless High-Quality shot. It had a Full HD recording of 1080p at 30 FPS. The Front camera has a 5MP camera which is perfect for selfies and records videos in 720p resolution with 85° wide angle to add more space to the shot.
Performance and Memory:
Xiaomi had released two variants of MI Max in India, one with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB memory while the other one with 4 GB RAM and a massive 128 GB Memory. Mi Max had a 1.8 GHz Snapdragon 650 64-bit chipset and came with Adreno 510 graphics which provides a lag less gaming experience. It had hybrid sim slot where you can use it had a dual sim or use the secondary slot to add a memory card up to 128 GB. Fingerprint sensor at the back is also very fast at unlocking. Mi Max had shown impressive results in all the major benchmark tests in its segment with occupying the top spot.
The device comes with Android (V6.0) Marshmallow and MIUI 7 custom ROM for MI devices by default which we could upgrade to MIUI 8. MI had a very active community for assisting new Mi users regarding software problems. Mi Max comes with some pre-installed app like themes to change skins of the UI, Mi Store for Mi products, and other necessary Google apps like Maps, YouTube, Gmail. Since the display is enormous sometimes users may like to use on one hand which would be difficult, so Mi Max had the option to reduce the size of the display screen to 4.5, 4.0 and 3.5 inches.
Battery and connectivity:
One impressive feature to talk about in Mi Max is its Battery capacity which is 4850mAh which gives more than a full day on normal usage for the mobile considering it size and performance. The battery is a non-removable Li-Polymer, as in any other Smartphone you cannot expect a full day usage with heavy usages like gaming and browsing or viewing videos on YouTube, but in some tests, Mi Max had performed beyond expectations. Even on heavy internet usage and continuous video viewing, Mi Max had worked for almost a day.
Mi Max comes with 4G LTE which supports all the bands in India and also had VoLTE support. The device had latest Bluetooth 4.2, regular Wi-Fi specs and navigation support for GPS, GLONASS, and BeiDou. It had hybrid sim slots where you can either add dual sims or a sim card + SD card.
Price and Availability:
Mi Max had released two variants in India one with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB memory priced at 14,999 INR and the second one is having a 4 GB RAM with 128 GB memory and is priced at 19,999 INR. It is available to buy at Flipkart Online shopping store.
Overall Mi Max is the best smartphone in its budget with very impressive specs in almost all the major categories of the display, performance, camera, battery, connectivity, and design. The only drawback you would ever consider is Display that to only if you do not like large screens. This device is a rich feature packed if you like to use videos, movies, play games and read books, it had all the features you will require from a mobile, to be honest more than you may need. Other than display (personal choice), the device is not having any major flaws in it and is a perfect phablet you could buy.
