All right! The Acer Predator 17 X is the real predator on the prowl this year with some of the most advanced weapons in its quicker. Defying the traditions of desktop virtual realities (VRs), here comes the predator that sports the world’s first ever VRs for a laptop to take your gaming experience beyond the skies. Add to that is its magnificent heat management features with macro keys and an incredible price of just 2,800 dollars. With the kind of specs its boasts, other laptops of its genres are way more costly than you can think.

Touted as the most powerful laptop in the industry today, the monster, however, defies the idea of portability. Its battery life is slightly disappointing too.

Look and design

Acer Predator 17X

There was a lot of buzz around the time when Acer Predator was being launched this year in 2016. Most of this buzz was about its look. Experts from across the world termed it one of the ugliest machines ever launched in the history. When I worked on it for a while, I too had the same opinion. But there was something I could not get hold of throughout. If you look at it from behind with its lid open, you will feel like an ugly Zombie staring right in your eyes.

The two parallel red stripes on the lid somehow resemble a lot like those on MSIs laptops. Though I won’t I call it a rip-off outright. The plan to make it look like an MSI machine does not go down too well. However, its logo on the lid is awesome. You feel like a carrying a gadget of Star Wars. It has a subwoofer on the bottom.

I think the machine could have been much better in terms of looks. The design of the laptop seems to have copied from MSIs but on its chassis, they look good. A little more brain should have gone into designing it.

Acer Predator 17X

Acer Predator 17X defies several traditions of the laptop industry. At a time when most brands are going for thin-crust pizza look, the Predator on the prowl has donned an iron suit weighing whopping 10.3 pounds. It measures 16.65/12.6/1.77 inches from all angles. I now call it Arnold Schwarzenegger of the laptop industry.

A lot of other demons like Origin Eon of the industry are as heavy as this Predator 17X is. Acer Predator 17X is slightly heavier than Alienware 13, which is around 8.3 pounds in total.

The keyboard of Acer Predator 17X is more than just comfortable in performance. My fingers were sailing through the keyboards in a particular rhythm. It is not that easy to find a rhythm with your keyboard from the day one. But I did. My hands were relaxed throughout. There was no sign of any inconvenience whatsoever.

Like all other keyboards in the same price range or less, this too comes with a colored backlighting feature. The key travel time is 2.23 mm. There is a numeric pad layout on the right and on the left is a set of macro keys. The best part is that it comes with a separate button to disable the touchpad.

Acer Predator 17X

The touchpad area of this predator is 4X2.4-inch, which I believe is enough your fingers to move around without feeling scrunched. I personally did not face any problem while moving my fingers around on the touchpad. The touchpad of Acer Predator 17X is ideal. It read movements of my fingers even when they were wet due to sweat. Separate buttons for right and left click are awesome for someone like me who just hates clicking on a touchpad.

Acer Predator 17X

The HD display of Acer Predator 17 X is out of the world in many aspects. It comes with an anti-glare matte that helps you keep your focus only on the game. There is just no way anything on screen can distract you. You can actually see the details of every color. They are bright and vibrant.

I watched Terminator 2: Judgment Day on the laptop and was just overwhelmed with its overall performance. I could see every single cell forming the Terminator in one scene during the climax. To test it further, I launched Max Payne on it. From gory blood to strands of grass on the streets, every color was their right on my face. The color settings of the display keep on adjusting on its own. So you don’t have to worry about adjusting it manually.

Gaming performance

Acer Predator 17X packs in 8 GB GDDR5 video RAM and Nvidia’s 980 GPU that can just knock-out any machine in the world in the face-off. You can bring on any expensive machine but the performance of Acer Predator 17X can never go down.
The Predator is ideal for all types of modern gaming experience that are otherwise heavy on machines.

Audio quality

The audio quality of Acer Predator 17X reaches another level of thrill with its four speakers and subwoofer. The sound is crisp and you feel for everything you hear. But yes, the sound of the laptop tends to tear a little down at the highest volume level.

When I played Shakira’s Waka Waka on the machine, it sounded better than ever. At the highest volume level, people outside my room could hear it clearly. Acer Predator 17X has a special feature of an inbuilt AMP for die-hard gamers who prefer playing games with their head gears on. So nothing in the world can distract you even when you are wearing your headphones.

Battery life

All right! You will have to face it now. All powerful gaming devices will have short battery lives. The main reason behind this is there heavy power-hungry compositions. This Predator lasted around 3 hours and more, which is still better than other laptops in the same category.

The webcam is not ideal for a machine like this. The stripes of green and white on my shirt were slightly hazy and as was skin tone. I would recommend it only for professional Skype conversations. But if you are not that choosy, then even this is good for you.

Heat management

After playing for more than 15 minutes on the laptop, the hottest spot of the laptop was around just 87 degrees. In fact, the underside of the machine was even cooler. No sign of heat on the keyboard.

Despite its ugly Zombie looks, I can’t defy the fact that it is the best machine at this price range and performance. It can run any game in the world without any problem. However, I would want the manufacturers to think a little about its styling.

With all those compositions, it is priced at 2,800 dollars and it is quite less as compared to machines like Alienware 17 that costs 2,700 dollars with compositions that are not any match to Acer Predator 17X’s. it is a great value laptop of 2016.
