Acer Aspire E 15: Review
All right! Acer is back in the league once again with its one of the most anticipated laptops from the Aspire series. The Acer Aspire E 15 is a hell of a monster despite all the rumors doing the rounds against it in the industry. There is hardly anything about it that we can pick to pan it down. But yes, its price is a little bit too high, considering there is no dearth of cheap machines with the same compositions.
Another problem with the Acer Aspire E15 is that it reminds all of us of Lindsay Lohan’s forgettable Parents’ Trap plot. Not because it has Lindsay’s looks but because it has a twin sister called Toshiba C55-C. Despite being its twin sister, Toshiba is a notch above in looks and design. Acer Aspire E15 is going to have a tough face-off with Toshiba’s C55-C literally in the coming few months. And the fate of the laptops studded with the same compositions in the same category is decided by their price factor. Acer Aspire E15 is 50 dollars more expensive than Toshiba C55-C.
Look and design
The Acer Aspire E15 has an ideal 15.6-inch screen display. That is pretty much like the screen size of Toshiba C55-C. Aspire E15 comes with a resolution of 1366X768, which is pretty much standard at a price range of 500 dollars. One of the best parts is that Acer Aspire E15 beats Toshiba C55-C when it comes to quality display. The viewing on Acer Aspire E15 is far better than on Toshiba’s demon. Vibrant colors and the backlighting are damn good.
I found Acer Aspire E15 stronger than its Toshiba counterpart. In fact, when you try to open it up you feel like you will break it. The best part is Acer is quite flexible too. A rare combo—isn’t it? The color combination is poles apart but still they both look the same from different angles.
For me, Acer Aspire E15 is the muscle factory Arnold Schwarzenegger while Toshiba is like ripped demon Rambo—Sylvester Stallone. It is a matter of choice. If you like the Terminator, go E15 and for those in love with 10 pack abs of Rambo, then Toshiba is the way to go.
Nothing extraordinary has been done to make Acer Aspire E15 finger friendly. It comes with an ordinary laptop keyboard that is not worth a special mention here. However, one thing that I would like to share here is that I found its keys a bit concave. I am not sure whether I am right or not. It is just that I felt them so. The company claims them to be flat. I found slight concave on my fingers.
Apart from this, the keyboard is just ok. If you have worked on cheap keyboards before then you might not face any problem in typing whatsoever. But yes, it not false that even some budget laptops are dishing out really cool keyboards. It is slightly off-putting, though.
What can you really expect from a cheap touchpad? As its keyboard is cheap and just okay, its touchpad does not shine on any ground either. They fall flat on my quality rating. One of the worst things that a gamer can face is the limping of the cursor despite having a smooth touchpad. I too had this nightmare while working on Acer Aspire E15.
One of the worst shockers for Acer fans is that this Aspire E15 model comes with its speakers on the front in the bottom of the laptop. So what really happens is that the sound of the speakers starts breaking as soon as you put your laptop on a plain surface like that of a desktop and your lap. Why? Because it has its speakers on the bottom towards the front of the laptop. That means it will obstruct the sound passage with one thing or another. Why the hell on earth the Acer tried brings its speakers there?
Acer has failed to earn its reputation for its sound quality and this time it has proved that I can’t ever even in the near future.
For a machine at 500 dollars, Acer Aspire E15 has packed some really good stuff in its body. There is no doubt that. This machine has a twin sister in Toshiba C55-C and the good thing is that the two have identical brains as well. This identical brain thing saved Acer Aspire E15.
The Acer’s latest demon runs on i5-5200U with 4 GB RAM and Intel HD Graphics 5500. Toshiba C55-C too packs in all the same stuff in its body except its 8 GB RAM. On the PC Mark test, Acer Aspire E15 scored the standard 2,186 while Toshiba went on to reach 2,527.
I would, however, say that these differences are not really big in any way. I will still categorize the demon from Acer’s league as a strong contender in the competition. But the truth is that Acer Aspire E15 failed all the tests to Toshiba C55-5 despite being the same in everything.
Acer Aspire E15 comes with a host of interesting and useful applications and programs. They are recognizable because of their recognizable names. This is probably the best feature of the machine that helps it stand out from the stiff competition with Toshiba. The only place where it knocks out its own twin sister Toshiba.
Most of its applications are named after the brand Acer. For example, Acer Launcher and Acer Care Center etc. It has McAfee antivirus program.
All right! The time has finally come when I am required to announce my judgment. And I am seriously very confused here because most of you will get the wrong impression of what I have written so far above. Despite the fact that the machine has failed on all the test with Toshiba, I would still call it a strong and sturdy Zombie that can take on any challenge anytime.
It is just that it is trying to cash in on the shadow of Toshiba C55-5 without trying to outsmart it. There is no point copying someone if you can’t be better than them. At just 500 dollars, this is still a good bet for those who just don’t like Toshiba for any reason.
